They're only handling the cutscenes, the actual game part is being developed by Eidos Montreal.

I'm not a fan of Square-Enix but if there is one thing that they can still manage to do skillfully and not fuck up, it's their cutscenes. Hell, they made 2 movies out of them.

Deus Ex 3 and assassins creed 3 are one and the same. Desmond goes on another crazy adventure and discovers he once lived in the cyberpunk era. Turns out, the first 2 Assassins creeds were just clever marketing for deus ex 3, an actual full blown game, and not 12 hours of running and minigames.

If grinding adds to the challenge, that eradic running-back-and-forth to find plot critical items in Metal Gear 2 also adds to the challenge. Hell, it'd be adding to a challenge to have to manually fast forward a DVD to the next scene to be able to watch the movie.

And most of the time the grinding is unnecessary in FF as well. To me it seems that the choise between grinding or not is really "do I want to be able to beat this boss in five rounds or ten?" They are rarely challenging to begin with, and grinding is not a way to overcome a challenge in the few cases that they may be. You are in fact overcoming nothing. It's the characters within the game that gets better, not you. You have just wasted time pressing the same buttons over and over again facing mooks without any skill involved what so ever.

Last I checked the highest grossing movie ever made was Avatar, highest 1st day was Twilight New Moon, and highest grossing album was Micheal Jackson's "Thriller". That really speaks for itself.

But I wouldn't call any of these things the "best x ever". Not even close.

I've played Starcraft and there is absolutely nothing amazing about it. Granted it doesn't do anything wrong and it's definitely fun and genuinely enjoyable, but it is nowhere remotely near the best game ever made. I wouldn't even call it the best RTS ever made, Total Annihilation shit all over it.

Granted this all comes down to personal tastes and subjective opinions, but I think you'll find you're in the wrong part of the internet to argue it's the "best game ever made".

The point I was making was that everything that valve puts into *most of their games, was put there for a reason.

This is nothing special to valve, as every game developer would like the time to fine-tune their games to that degree, but only a few companies have the means to actually do it.
