I stopped reading at "14 year-old girl." I really hate it when people use the "super badass kid" cliche, especially when they're a weapons user. Being a kid they should have some strength penalties.

There was a guy that used to play in my group that ALWAYS played a kid character and cheesed everything so it was ridiculously powerful. The guy had a hard-on for a terrible house rule of 'if you can storytell your way out of it, you can cheat the dice' as well. No one else went by this and only allowed him to get away with it so he wouldn't bitch every single round of combat. He kept on with his my-child-is-really-an-ancient-demon-god characters until he eventually rage quit the group because we didn't allow him to play a kid vampire that was really an ancient demon hiding out from his angry demon dad or some shit. Not kidding.

The two personalities exist as separate individuals, but must work relatively in-sync to properly control non-automatic body functions. One can cede some control to the other, and while doing so, may manifest as a "head person" ala Scorpius / Harvey from Farscape or Head 6 / Head Baltar from BSG.
Campaign Suggestions: Cyberpunk, Post-Cyberpunk

Take away the grinding by altering the combat. Give the mons the abilities of a normal PC (the ability to perform it's special attacks, to dodge attacks, to grapple) and that will change the way that combat feels.

Instead of grinding with random ass trainers who say things like "I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!", have the player in more wilderness areas where they attacked by wild pokemon. No safe road between towns for these fuckers. battles don't start with " You find a wild Pidgey!", they start with "A bird on a nearby tree is glaring at you intently. Suddenly, it takes flight, speeding towards you!"
Team Rocket or whatever regularly harasses the player at unexpected times; really give them a feel of the Mob, they've got people everywhere and after the player has foiled a plot or two, Rocket operatives get the "Attack on sight". All of them.

For searching the grass for new mons, have a roll table for random encounters for each region. Obviously not all areas have rare mons, so in the area between pallet and whatever the first town is, your d10 table consists of 3 rattatas, 3 pidgeys, 2 caterpies and 2 weedles. Use a little sense. Would you find a Magikarp in the middle of the road? probably not.

Think more along the lines of the TV show, and less the lines of the games. That's my 2 cents.

Hey the /tg/

So, tonight at work (shit retail lols) I was thinking about my desires to run a 'Mons campaign But the are a few hangups I need to find a way around, and I hope you can help me.

First, 'mons (pokemons, digimons, dragon warrior monsters, etc) rely on a certain amount of grinding. One of the draws of the games is catching all the pokey mans and spending time to do that. We can't really do that on the tabletop, its stupid to make players fight the same fight over and over, and also can't just give them to rare 'mons.

Second, 'mons, rely on a visual connection with your pokemon. And now just with creatures we're all already familiar with. Perhaps it'd be possible to let players describe their own creatures, but that seems like a cheap way out.

Wat do.
