"It was, of course, impossible for anyone to do the best part of a thousand quid's worth of legal work in less than seven minutes".

That's not only untrue in itself, it's also misleading about the kind of book it is.. The guy just joined a firm of lawyers but shortly thereafter finds out that all the partners (including his old schoolmate) are werewolves.. and that this accounts for their prodigious rate of work. Apparently two attributes of werewolves are a photographic memory and cray-like mental arithmetic skills.

The guy has only just found out about this new bite-gifted set of competencies (having just been bitten and infected). The previous sentence was: "It had been like doing things in a dream; the sort where you're an airline pilot or brain surgeon, and you can do all the incredibly difficult and dangerous stuff, even though in the back of your mind you know you wouldn't have a clue where to start if you were awake".

The book is full of good humor, as are all the books by the same author.
