I found this cool border collie brittany mix the only problem is the shelter wants $150 for vaccinations and neutering. They throw in some other crap that I'm not really interested in like leashes and training. Is this a good deal for a stray? Seems like they're asking too much but it's been a while since I've done this.

For a dog who's part brit and border collie? It seems kinda high from a pound, but because of the breeds it's not too bad at all. Hop on that before someone else does, you won't regret it. Just make sure you can run it alot
>> No. 255
it's a pretty awesome breed mix. depending on how hold s/he is, i'd say it's a fair price. go with your instincts. if you and this dog feel right together, then whatever they ask is worth it imo

Isn't training essential?

Who else uses a Kong and what do you stuff it with? My puppy gets biscuits or peanut butter but I want other ideas. We should also discuss how indispensible and fantastic this "toy" is and how much those of you who have dogs but don't have one need it.

My dog's Kong ball is probably his favorite thing in the universe, surpassing both me and his Wubba combined.

If you could get any dog you want, what kind of dog would you get?

I'd go with an Akita and a pug.

Same here. I hug, squeeze, sniff, cuddle, kiss and sleep with my dogs. Doesn't mean I would like to have sex with them, or that I feel sexual attraction to them. I just love them. Plain and simple. They're my best friends in the world and closer to me than any sibling/parent/friend. It's just how we roll.

Being a wolf lover i just recently stumbled apon an article about a wolf dog hybrid. Does anyone have a 'Wolfdog' ? are they any different from the average domestic dog, would you evar get one?

I had a half wolf half malamute for 10 years & he was one of the best dogs I've ever had. He loved all people and was impossible to get mad. When me & my brothers were little we would play with him, sit on him & everything, he was always gentle and never growled or nipped or anything. The only problem was that if we left him off the leash without keeping a constant eye on him he would run off for hours & sometimes days at a time, eventually showing back up with some kind of dead animal that he had killed/found on his trip.

He also was terrible with other non-dog animals. We had about 20 chickens when we first got him & he slowly but surely picked off each one of them. He also took any chance he could get to go after our cats & rabbits, and probably killed a dozen or so rabbits and 4 cats. (Live on a farm so lots of animals around)

But other than the killing of small animals, which if you don't live on a farm you shouldn't have a problem with, he was one of the nicest dogs i've ever met.

this is actually a pretty ideal wolf/hybrid scenario. More often than not, you'll have trouble with them chewing their way out of cars (yes. I shit you not. Mine chewed out of the car. Out of the FUCKING CAR.) killing anything they catch, being very freaky around strangers, and very on edge most of the time. Again, I cannot stress enough that people's wolf/hybrid success stories are very often exceptions to the rule. I've owned dogs my whole life, and I'm not ashamed to say I understand them better than anyone I've ever met. I even feel more kinship with dogs and wolves than with most people. And all of the hybrids/wolves I've encountered (including those that I myself owned) were more often than not rejects with behavioral problems that were rescued from pounds and taken to special refuges (I used to live near one and would volunteer, that's where I got my girl) because people simply cannot handle them. American's have this idiot mindset that they can have anything they want if it's cool and for sale. There are more wolf-dog hybrids/pet wolves in the US than any other country. And almost EVERY SINGLE ONE I've seen has been in a shelter/rescue/sanctuary or something because people think "HURR, I drive a Hummer and collect guns, I'm gonna get a wolf DURR" and they don't know what they're getting into. The animal ends up killing/injuring someone, or goes out of control, or wild, or simply can't cope with being among these humans who don't know how to properly cater to their needs. They are abused, neglected, abandoned, or even put down. Something they didn't deserve, and had forced upon them simply because some cool-guy wanted a "badass" pet. I'm not trying to berate anyone here as a "OMFG U FCKING LIAR" or saying that wolf-hybrids/wolves are impossible pets, I just want you to understand OP: please, Please, PLEASE make sure you know what you're doing before you get one. I'm not playing it off as "you need to be some special wolf-whisperer badass," or "

My dad owned a dingo. Not a wolf by any means, but anything that's a bit wild is a shitload of work. No car sense, would constantly escape and killed any wildlife it could get it's mouth around. It was friendly to people, but just such a hassle and constant distraction.

Fucking thing just strolled in front of a truck one day.

What does /dog/ think of my dog? She's a mutt of course. About 3 1/2 years old. The shelter I got her from said her mother was a springer spaniel...they weren't sure what the father was, but I think it was a schnauzer mix.

The best thing about her though, is that she fits in with the mood. You want to chill out, she'll lie down with you. You want to play, she'll play. New people, no problem. She does have a habit of getting a bit overexicted when someone comes in, but that's usually gone withing a minute or so.

She also has these weird little habits. She likes milk, tuna, cheese...isn't keen on salty food and rarely takes scraps from the floor. She also likes to jump on sofas/chairs should you let her and slip under beds. Reminds me of a cat.

Yeah, in my experience, mixes tend to have better temperaments but I can't say why. And obviously there are exact opposite situations too. How tall is she, OP? I can see the spaniel but she also looks like she might be part golden retriever to me. Lovely dog, thanks for sharing :)

Yeah, people always say she looks like a labrador or retriever puppy. She's about 18" tall, so she's around the small or medium range. And I think the mixes having better temperment/health is something to do with the inbreeding in purebred dogs.

Here's another picture. Looks like she's about to kill me, or is plotting to. Her cute smiling act can't fool me.
